MOVE OVER VMD; AFFORDABLE VIDEO ANALYTICS IS HERE
The use of Video Motion Detection (VMD) has become a standard in all CCTV installations, potentially providing the operators with less false alarms and greater information. However VMD is very limited in its application, unable to distinguish specific detected motions, meaning that alerts may be raised when a tree is blowing in the wind, rather than when a person is moving. Weather conditions and positioning of cameras have also posed problems. In addition, the information provided is extremely limited to basic alarm information, like when and where an alarm had been activated but little else. Where VMD stops, Video Analytics starts

VCAsys is ideal for monitoring car parks and grounds to prevent unauthorised out-of-hours access. Perimeter fence breaches may also be detected, as well as incursions into sterile zones or other areas where access is prohibited or restricted. Direction of movement can be defined so that the system only generates triggers when individuals move in a particular direction across a zone, or only when they move into the zone but not when they leave it. Once the system has been calibrated, it can be set to avoid false alarms due to wildlife. For high-security applications, the system can alert operators when someone is loitering near the perimeter or approaching entrance gates after-hours.
VCAsys is equally useful in maintaining building security. Straight out of the box with no configuration, a VCA-enabled device acts as a presence sensor, alerting security immediately when a moving object is detected in the area covered by the camera. More sophisticated security policies can easily be configured, for example, by masking out a non-sensitive area or by enabling further rules that detect stopping or other defined behaviours in sensitive areas.
