VCA Products

Overview

VCA Technology's goal has been to present a simple, cost-effective set of packages to suit the needs of a particular customer or application; calling on its manager's and technical team's fifteen years worth off analytics experience to bring you these exciting, useable analytics solutions. The ability for the analytics to run on a DSP board so small, and optimised for the latest Texas Instruments' DM6446 technology is a novel and resourceful development. Geoff Thiel, CEO of VCA Technology explains, "In highly intelligent cameras offering compressed video stream and analytics, a DSP is mandatory because of the considerable signal processing that must take place, and the digital media processors based on DaVinciTM technology have become the de facto standard platform for video analytics. By leveraging this technology, we have been able to create very sophisticated video analytics. At the heart of the development of this software is the awareness of the needs of the end user, making real analytics functional and affordable, through both our embedded VCApresence, VCAsurveillance and VCAstabilizer solutions or as a standalone VCAsys software."

Through combining the VCAsys software and Texas Instrument's technology - the technology of choice for video analytics - we have enabled video cameras to become intelligent information gatherers, rather than instruments used purely to record, with the ability to monitor and classify specific images, whatever the weather or positioning. Comments Philippe Marchay, Security Business Development Manager at Texas Instruments, "It is exciting that VCA Technology chose the digital media processors based on DaVinciTM technology for VCAsys. This example shows yet another application that perfectly leverages the overall performance of our DM64xx high-performance processors, thanks to the integration of analytics, encoding and Linux-based web browser, all on a single chip. This is great news for developers of video surveillance products who want to inexpensively and efficiently embed advanced analytics into their camera to meet the demands of this growing market."

Whilst the embedded products will provide "an edge" based solution by providing analytics at the camera, VCA Technology also recognise the opportunity to provide centralised analytics among the thousands of analogue CCTV installations. In these situations VCA provides two possible options, both of which enable a very cheap, easy to use and install analytics upgrade path. Firstly, the VCAsys software can be provided as a PC based solution, giving the user the same functionality as the embedded packages, straight onto their local PC and with only 7% CPU take up.
